My name is Gary Burley, I Illustrate books. I am trained in etching, pen and ink, watercolour and oils
How would you describe your creative universe ?
I love surreal, dark, mysterious places that a mind normally doesn’t want to go to. Somewhere between fantasy and nightmare. Like HR Giger or Piranesi or the animated works of Hiyou Miyazaki
Where does your inspiration come from ?
My inspiration is from old etchings, Gerard Trignac, sculpture, the colourful artwork from the science fiction magazine (from France) ‘Metal Hurlant’ and creatures of the deep sea
What is the project you dream of making happen ?
A coral reef landscape sculpted in clay and encased in resin, 70% complete, I have dreamt of it for 35 years since i watched Jacques Cousteau as a young boy
What are you working on right now ?
An art deco illustrated re-interpretation for the medieval book ‘Ivanhoe’
