Kati Kohl

Can you introduce yourself in a few words…
My name is Kati Kohl, I’m a designer and illustrator from the Austrian countryside. After finishing my studies in design, the infamous „saudade“ got the best of me and made me pack my bags and move to Lisbon where I’ve been living since around 5 years. I’m a hopeless dreamer, a linguaphile and travel-enthusiast.

How would you describe your creative universe?
If I had to describe my creative universe to someone who has never seen anything of me before, I’d say imagine protagonists in dreamy summer nights with a drop of melancholy, everything tinted in rosy and sepia hued colors. My illustrations tell tales about love and celebrate the simple but important things of life, such as sunsets, full moons or hugs.

Where does your inspiration come from?
I mostly get creative in the calm of the night when the city is asleep. Speaking of the city – I’m heavily inspired by the spirit of Lisbon, the pastel-colored houses, the unique light, the ocean and the mix of old and new. Other influences are fashion, coming-of-age movies like „Call me by your name“ and of course Pinterest and Instagram.

What is the project you dream of making happen?
One thing I’d like to realize is a mural in Lisbon (…and then try to do one in all the places I travel to. How cool would that be?) And I’m also dreaming of doing a solo exhibition in a beautiful old building.

What are you working on right now?
After some very busy months full of client work, I’m currently enjoying some time to create new illustrations, experiment with different styles and set up my own online shop.
