Can you introduce yourself in a few words…
I am Marina Kiselyova, botanical artist based in London. I was born in Odessa, Ukraine, studied Applied Mathematics and worked in IT for quite a while. After moving to London I got seriously into botanical art and illustration.
How would you describe your creative universe ?
I was always fond of different arts and crafts and tried a different mediums to express my creativity: embroidery, oil painting, graphite drawing, felting, photography, etc. however, once I saw some exquisite pieces of botanical art I knew I wanted to be part of it and I started exploring this genre. Now my creative universe is all about plants, pigments and colours, papers and brushes, books about botanical art and photo references.
Where does your inspiration come from ?
There are two major sources of inspiration for me: works of prominent artists and flora.
What is the project you dream of making happen ?
I’d like to produce a series of pen and ink drawings of different thistles.
What are you working on right now ?
At the moment I’m preparing for several exhibitions that will hopefully take place this year.
